Fifteen year old Sam Jose competed earlier this month at the MENCAP National Championships for track and field, winning two golds and a bronze medal. Competing in the under 16 age group he won gold and gained a new personal best in high jump, followed by a gold in long jump and a bronze medal with a new pb in the 200m.
Sam is on the autistic spectrum, attending a specialist school in Truro. He was introduced to athletics just over a year ago attending the Saturday club at Cornwall AC. His confidence and commitment to athletics has grown and he has since been to several competitions.
It didn't end there, with qualification at regional finals, he travelled the following week to Coventry for the Typhoon Junior National Disability Athletics Championships achieving two more golds and another bronze medal in the same events. His mum, Helen, said "We are so proud of his achievements and would like to thank his coaches John, Martin and Becky and all those at Saturday Club for all their support. Congratulations from all of us at CAC.
