East Cornwall Harriers has been monitoring the COVID situation very carefully and although our race is set for November there are still risks involved in planning a normal event. Many other clubs and organisations have already cancelled their races for this year, however we have come up with a plan to offer an alternative event for 2021, the Anytime Cornish Marathon!
An anytime event must be run on a set course, in this case the Cornish Marathon route. Individuals who enter run the route between Sunday October 17th and Sunday November 14th.
Record your run on a Garmin, Strava or equivalent, then submit the time to the race team, who verifies it and adds it to the results. There will be no single race day, and it is also not the same as a standard virtual race as you must complete the marathon on the Cornish course. The event window will be a month from mid-October to mid-November so there will be plenty of time for those who live outside the area to come down to Cornwall and take part.
There will be an entry fee, for which those entered will get a memento and medal (these will be posted), and any profits made from the event will be shared between the organisations and charities that we would normally support and who have lost out due to Covid over the last year.
We have looked at all the options and feel this is the best way for us to safely put on an event in 2021. The Cornish is an important event in the race calendar and although this will not be the same as normal, it gives us all something to look forward to and start training for.
